The cultural life of Hultsfred is very active. Visit www.hultsfred.se to see what’s going on. The monthly
poster Dag för Dag lists all upcoming events. There are concerts and plays all year round. There are five
cinemas.
Music is very important in Hultsfred. Hultsfredsfestivalen is one of the biggest rock festivals in Sweden. It’s not just about music. Food from all over the world, an outdoor cinema and much more can be experienced during three exciting days.
Unknown bands have their own festival in Rookie, which takes place in October. Popkollo was founded in Hultsfred by Marit Bergman. It aims to increase young women’s interest in music. Popkollo takes place in late summer.
During the rest of the year there are concerts and pub nights at Metropol, organised by Rockparty.
Virserums Musikdagar is a week full of music and joy and is a festival for music lovers of all ages. There are more reasons to stop by in Virserum. Virserums Konsthall is a project-oriented art gallery with modern anthropological art in installation form. Life is the greatest story, art the greatest storyteller. Next to the art gallery you can find
a telecommunications museum and a furniture industry museum. The latter is a living copy of a furniture factory from the 1920’s. Furniture made in Virserum is also
displayed here.
Motorns Dag in Målilla is perfect for those who like old engines, cars, bicycles and mopeds.
The libraries in Hultsfred and Virserum give access to media and computers. You can borrow books, audio books, music CD’s and magazines and book a computer to look for information, study or send emails. You can build your family tree with the help of microcards and databases. For a small fee you can scan documents, make photocopies or send faxes. If you’re a library member you can access the catalogue and certain databases 24 hours a day. Please feel free to comment on the selecion. The local authority organises its own events and cooperates with other organisers.
Places that are representative of the area are for instance the village of Visböle, the blast furnace in Hagelsrum and the small-scale farm of Stubbhult. A cultural scholarship is awarded each year.
