Medical and dental care
Kalmar county council is responsible for medical and dental care. Private healthcare is also available. There are health centres in Hultsfred, Virserum and Mörlunda and hospitals in Västervik, Oskarshamn and Kalmar.
There is a national health dental practice in Hultsfred. Public sector employees are entitled to company health care.
Individual and family care
Social services deal with a number of issues. The benefits system is there for people who cannot support themselves in any other way. Every case is tried on an individual and confidential basis. Home-help service
The aim is for people to be able to live at home indefinitely. Meals on wheels, alarms, daily activities and short-term accommodation are all examples of help that is available, subject to a needs assessment.
Old people’s homes
are situated in Hultsfred, Målilla, Mörlunda, Vena and Virserum.
Day centres
Day centres are run with the help of volunteers and are based in all old people’s homes and in several other places. Here you can participate in different activities, simply chat over a cup of coffee or visit the hairdresser or chiropodist.
LSS
is a law that stipulates that people with severe and permanent disabilities have the right to any help they might need to live a normal life. This service is essentially free, but a reasonable charge can be made for housing and leisure activities.
Home deliveries
Retired and disabled people are entitled to low-cost deliveries of everyday commodities.
