Facts on Hultsfred

THE MUNICIPALITY
The municipality has 14 024 inhabitants, of whom about 5 400 live in central Hultsfred. Other villages are Virserum, Målilla, Mörlunda, Silverdalen, Järnforsen, Rosenfors, Vena and Lönneberga.

Their number of inhabitants range from 300 to 2 000.

INDUSTRY
Over a third of all jobs are offered within the manufacturing industry. Small and medium sized companies dominate the labour market, the largest being Swedwood AB in Hultsfred. Other medium sized companies are Bergs Sågverk in Mörlunda, Finnveden in Hultsfred, Järnforsens Stoppmöbler, Kvillsfors Träindustri AB and Svelux AB in Målilla.

 

COMMUNICATIONS
You find Hultsfred along road 34 in the inland part of the Northern Kalmar County, about 60 kilometers from the Baltic sea coast. The distance to Kalmar is 120 kilometers, to Växjö 105 kilometers, to Linköping 120 kilometers and to Jönköping 120 kilometers.

There are railway connections to Kalmar, Nässjö, Oskarshamn, Linköping and Stockholm (3 to 5 return trips a day). 

 

HOUSING
AB Hultsfred´s Bostäder (only in Swedish) offers apartments of good standard at comparatively low rents. In most cases there is no waiting list to get an apartment. There are many houses and bungalows for sale. About 70 % of housing is privately owned. Land for building houses is nearly always available.

 

CHILD-CARE SYSTEM
The aim of the local authorities is that every working or studying parent who requests child care by the Municipality of Hultsfred should get it. Waiting times do however occur periodically. Today, there are 416 day nursery places, 233 places in child minding homes and 235 places in different after-schools. 

 

EDUCATION
The educational system is well developed with comprehensive schools, upper secondary schools, municipal adult education, Swedish for immigrants, municipal music school, higher special courses, detached college courses, commissioned education and daytime people's college.

 

PUBLIC HEALTH AND MEDICAL CARE
Nursing homes are in Hultsfred, Virserum and Mörlunda. There is a district nurse in every part of the municipality. For advanced medical care there are hospitals in Västervik and Oskarshamn. There are dentists in Hultsfred, Virserum, Målilla and Mörlunda. Employees in industry, the county council and municipality have access to an industrial public health.

 

LEISURE
The countryside offers excellent opportunities for an active and stimulating spare time including for instance walking trails, fishing, skiing, berry and mushroom picking. There are sports halls, an indoor swimming-pool and indoor skating-hall. 15 minutes by car from Hultsfred you find the Tobo Golf Club with its 18 hole golf course. Next to Virserum's holiday village is the ski slope “Dackestupet” with lift and snow cannon. The Stora Hammarsjön lake fishing licence area consists of about 30 lakes and ponds, many with noble fishing. Organised activities are comprehensive and varying. The amount of cultural venues are very good in relation to the size of the municipality.

For rock music lovers, Hultsfred is well known thanks to the Rockparty club and the annual Hultsfreds Festival. Rockparty arranges concerts around the year, since the opening of the entertainment palace Metropol, Rockparty has further increased their level of ambition. Venues follow one another and range from “Oasis” to “Nina Persson”.
