Public Transport & Communications

Planes, trains, buses, main roads and shipping

Situated in the province of Småland in south-eastern Sweden, Hultsfred belongs to the county of Kalmar. The distance to Kalmar, Växjö, Jönköping and Linköping is approximately 120 km. We are around 300 km away from Sweden’s three largest cities.

Trains and buses

There is a direct train service to Kalmar, Nässjö and Linköping. There are both passenger trains and freight trains. SJ Tåg provides comfortable trains on the route Kalmar-Hultsfred-Linköping. Kalmar Läns Trafik (KLT) runs the buses and provides direct routes to for instance Oskarshamn, Västervik and Växjö. The narrow-gauge railway runs between Hultsfred and Västervik during the tourist season.

Heavy investment in bus traffic

The municipality of Hultsfred is investing heavily in public transport. There is a more frequent service, the buses are new and a great deal safer.

Complementary transport

People who reside in Hultsfred and are more than 2 km away from the nearest bus stop or train station (in rural areas) can up to two times a week, on ordinary Wednesdays and Fridays, hire a taxi to the nearest shop. The journey should be booked no later than 4 pm the day before, from the nearest taxi company. It costs 37 SEK including VAT (one-way) , regardless of the length of the journey.

Aviation

Hultsfred/Vimmerby airport is situated approximately 5 km from the centre of Hultsfred. It is equipped with modern approach aids and can accept most types of aircraft, for instance Boeing 747.

Main roads and shipping

Arterial road 23 between Linköping and Malmö passes through the municipality of Hultsfred and is an interesting alternative to the E4.  The nearest deep-water port can be found in Oskarshamn, about 60 km away, and is easily reached by road or rail.
